Artificially manipulating oil prices in order to force changes in behavior is just morally wrong. In fact, it's called 'tyranny'. When oil prices in an unencumbered (by excessive taxation or subsidies) free market get high, then the alternatives will become economically viable. Until then, we face this rollercoaster of volitility.

Two points: one, alternative energy is alternative because it's not viable. Two, there are people who are suffering - not merely inconvenienced - due to high energy costs. It's not just $4/gal gasoline, it's also home heating/cooling bills that have doubled, commodity prices that have risen and the hit in consumer confidence that has made everyone lessen their participation in the economy.

Why not leave gas prices high, and use that as another push to seek alternative energy sources? We're far from OUT of oil in the world.
Why is it that this never really even discussed?
This should not be impossible,
and the sooner more of these programs attain a certain level of
recognition (and funding) the sooner we can lead the world in what
is certain to be the future of us all.
